Dr. NANCY FOSTER SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM 2008/2009

The Dr. Nancy Foster Scholarship Program carry a 12-month stipend for each student of $20,000 and an annual cost-of-education allowance of up to $12,000 and up to $20,000 support for a four to six week research collaboration at a NOAA facility.

Dr. Nancy Foster Scholarships provides support for outstanding scholarship and encourages independent graduate-level research in oceanography, marine biology, or maritime archeology, particularly by women and members of minority groups. Doctoral students for up to four years, and masters students may be supported for up to two years.
Those eligible to apply The Dr. Nancy Foster Scholarship Program are United States citizens currently pursuing or intending to pursue a masters or doctoral level degree in oceanography, maritime archeology (including the curation, preservation, and display of maritime artifacts) or marine biology, (including all science, engineering, and resource management of ocean and coastal areas).

Recipients of The Dr. Nancy Foster Scholarship Program awards may be employed at the time of the award if it is a requirement of their degree program or directly related to their research effort. Other forms of employment will not be allowed and scholars will be required to submit a letter certifying that they meet this requirement. Eligibility must be maintained for each succeeding year of support and annual reporting requirements, to be specified at a later date, will apply.

The 2008/2009 application process begins on December 1, 2007. All applications must be received by February 8, 2008 no later than 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.

AUN-GIST (Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology, Korea) Scholarship on Science and Technology, offers scholarships to ASEAN students to study masteral (4 slots) and doctoral (6 slots) degrees in science and technology in Gwangju, Korea. Four one-year scholarships, each valued at $1500, are available from the UQ Business School and School of Tourism to be awarded to outstanding Australian and International students who are admitted to the Bachelor of Business (BBus) at the UQ Ipswich Campus in 2008.

  • Criteria based on Year 12 Overall Position, or international equivalent. Interviews may be required;

FUJITSU ASIA PACIFIC SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM AT JAIMS IN HONOLULU, HAWAII

Fujitsu Scholarship (The Fujitsu Asia Pacific Scholarship) Program, sponsored by Fujitsu Limited, provides financial assistance for postgraduate education and cross-cultural management training to participants from the Asia-Pacific region.

East-West Knowledge Leader Program (EWKLP), An intensive three-month, Graduate diploma program at JAIMS in Honolulu, Hawaii.
To qualify for the East-West Knowledge Leader Program (EWKLP) Fujitsu Scholarship, you must be a citizen of one of the following countries/areas: State of Hawaii, Australia, China*, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar*, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, or Vietnam*.
You must qualify for admission to EWKLP. For complete information, refer to the EWKLP application documents contained in the EWKLP Application Checklist section. EWKLP Fujitsu Scholarship qualifications include the following:
  • A bachelor’s degree or one equivalent to a four-year standard baccalaureate degree in any discipline from a regionally or nationally accredited institution.
  • Grade point average of a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • A minimum TOEFL score of 577/233/90 (paper/computer/Internet), TOEIC score of 750 or IELTS overall band test result of 6.5 or higher from tests taken between January 2006 and January 2008. Applicants who received a bachelor’s degree or an advanced degree that comprises at least two years of full-time coursework within the last five years from a regionally accredited institution in the U.S., Australia, United Kingdom, or New Zealand; or from a university in Canada, Africa or Singapore where English is the language of instruction are exempt from taking the TOEFL, TOEIC, or IELTS.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant full-time work experience at time of application.

Deadline for submission: February 15, 2008

All application documents, test scores and academic transcripts must be received by JAIMS by February 15, 2008. Applicants who fail to submit all documents by the due date cannot be considered for the Fujitsu Scholarship.

MASTER IN PUBLIC POLICY (MPP) PROGRAM - NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF SINGAPORE

Master in Public Policy (MPP) Programme provides a strong foundation in conceptual and analytical skills for future public service leaders and individuals with an interest in understanding and influencing how public policy choices are made.
Master in Public Policy (MPP) students benefit from the School’s growing network of exchange arrangements of up to 1 year with public policy schools worldwide. The School also conducts an active programme of seminars and public lectures by political, not-for-profit and business leaders to enable all students to complement their formal learning with the opportunity to interact with distinguished individuals who are shaping the future.
Master in Public Policy (MPP) Programme Requirements:
The minimum candidature period for the MPP is 18 months and the maximum is 3 years. Within that time, you must earn at least 72 graduate-level modular credits (MCs) by completing at least 16 modules, comprising 7 core modules (28 MCs) and 9 electives (36 MCs), plus a Policy Analysis Exercise (8 MCs). Most MPP students read 4 modules per semester and complete the requirements in 4 semesters spanning 2 years. You may apply to read electives (up to 12 MCs) taught in other programmes within NUS. You may read a maximum of 5 modules per semester.

To graduate with the Master in Public Policy (MPP), you must obtain a CAP of at least 3.0 for 72 graduate-level MCs, including the MCs for the 7 core modules and the Policy Analysis Exercise.

The application deadline for applicants applying for scholarships or grants is 31 January 2008. For applicants not seeking financial assistance, the application deadline is 31 May 2008.

JUNIOR YEAR PROGRAM IN ENGLISH - STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAMS

The main purpose of Junior Year Program in English (JYPE) is to offer an opportunity for you to take science, engineering, and education courses at Tohoku University, without having to attain the Japanese language proficiency that would be necessary to take the same courses in Japanese. All lectures are given in English and course credit will be given by the standards for the equivalent courses offered in Japanese.
We recommend that you take two semesters (one-year), because some classes are designed for a whole year. However, a few students can be admitted for a single semester(6 months).

How do I apply?
For overseas student at one of Tohoku University’s partner universities, you can contact your Exchange Program Coordinator for information about applying to Tohoku University as an exchange student.The Coordinator will be able to give you information about our selection criteria and will be available to assist you through the application and selection processes.

Your application must be submitted through the Exchange Program Coordinator at your home institution and you cannot make apply directly Tohoku University.

Requirements
To be considered for the Student Exchange program for one semester or one year of study at Tohoku University, you must:
  • be an undergraduate or postgraduate student at your home university after completing the exchange program.
  • have completed at least one year of study towards a degree at a recognized institution in your home country and be continuing towards the degree of your home institution.
  • have a good grade average.
  • have financial support of 80,000 yen per month during your stay in Japan.

Note: Every applicant for exchange programs can apply for the scholarship awarded by the Japanese Student Services Organization. But, the scholarship is highly competitive.
